about

Going back in time, finding wonderful classics, and giving them a contemporary/improvisational twist... It gives Billie Davies the greatest pleasure to be able to bring back these particular songs with a new perspective to an audience. The style and spirit is jazz, in its purest form, I adopted “post-cool” to name the genre/style. “... I would describe this music as “contemporary modal with a romantic twist” or perhaps “neo-cool jazz.” Very much like Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy and Jackie McLean but in 2012. The music is lyrical, good phrasing, nice rhythms, but at the same time very approachable and listenable even for non-jazz audiences. One could not better describe it then “post-cool jazz”... D. Coffeng.

Billie in her words explains the journey. “The recordings were done true to the jazz tradition, all the musicians are playing live in a circle in one room that has been acoustically treated to the extent of hearing the right acoustics. In recording, mixing and mastering we made sure to preserve the integrity of the playing, and work with the bleed rather than against it. Nothing was added, deleted, gated, filtered or equalized except for some reverb on the horn. What you hear is what we played. I for one, am very happy with the balanced sound we achieved from mixing. The dynamics were of the highest importance in all recordings... and the title says it all... All About Love is in my opinion romantic and passionate.
